too, too much...

Not much afoot.
Taking it ever so gently today after a beautiful night at the convent in Abbotsford for a wedding.
A gorgeous, lovely, wedding. Beautiful couple, great party, incredible surroundings and balmy weather. Add some mean vodka and a gypsy trio plus some ace tunes, let me just say there was dancing! A fabulous evening..... Today we're feeling it! Thankfully food and foxtail ( as it's
known in our household) is a remedy for all over-indulgences. Have tried to get crafty on a gee's bend collaboration but..... not up for it. Time for bed. I hear tomorrow calling..............

Just another thursday.....

Work in progress: only if 'progress' means take All the time in the world...... That's Joes quilt (in progress) started about 2 (?) years ago. I've used mainly old stash fabrics and a great piece called Road Trip i bought on the net from the states. I only wish i'd bought more. This quilt is evolving every time i pull it out. And now that it's almost bed size i can see the overall look and how close i could be to finishing it. That's the tricky thing when you design something from scratch, without a pattern or image to work from, you're never quite sure how it will look, how the design will work as a complete piece. All the strips are machine pieced (easy) and then I've appliqed blocks based loosely on some of Joe's drawings, some are more abstract than others. But I feel like i'm on the home stretch now, only a few more blocks to go.....
And below is a prize i won at the mixtape blogmeet at Amitie last saturday. It was a lovely afternoon spent sewing and chatting with other lovely bloggy folk. Always fun to mix with fellow crafters. I don't have a pic of my present i made for Jodie, I hope she liked it! And if you check out Christie's blog she has a great image of the gift i was lucky enough to receive. My photo's don't do it justice! It's an amazing japanese wrap. I love it! And Thanks to Nic and Fi and Justine (in absentia) for organising the get-together!

show and tell

A while back i posted about men who quilt. And i promised some pics when i could get all the techno jazz sorted (which i have) so Behold! The first man quilt. Made from recycled denim and backed with fabric from the/my stash as well as a great piece HE purchased in Finland! Yes, the animal one! It's still not bound, that's my job. It was machine quilted as he is not into handsewing as yet! But this is no fad, no one-hit wonder. No way! He is (as i type) finishing off quilt number four! Bloody heck! And number 2 and 3 are at the quilters! That's number 3 below, made from recycled big day out fabrics. All his own idea, all his own design, and mostly his sweat but a bit of mine too. Slowly i've convinced/nagged him into ironing before cutting (it's taken him til now to appreciate the time it saves in the long run) and pinning before sewing. (Crikey! he's got the graph paper out and is already planning Number 5.) As for me, i'm thankful that we can share our views and appreciation of fabric in all it's glory, that the sewing mess is Not all mine and he can sniff out a vintage pillow case at 50 metres! ok Enough about him! Me feeling a bit pippi longstocking (in short socks?) in newly purchased red shoes from the sacred heart op shop! Some cheerful footwear for spring! And i've been working on a secret project for the next mixtape crafty get-together.... Here's a before shot. Still not fully resolved but getting there. Hope everyone is getting some spring craft time, you can't beat longer, lighter evenings for cracking on with a project!

feeling a spring in my step

It's six pm and i'm so happy to be looking out into the garden and it's still light, the birds are chattering to each other, the orange blossom is sending it's sweet scent to me and i'm not rushing to put socks on cold feet and throw a rug over my lap! Hurrah for spring. Which means summer is not too far away. And daylight savings starts this weekend. So hello to longer more energetic evenings. More productivity after a day at work. I like all the seasons, i like the advent of a new season: the first leaves turning golden and crunching under foot; the first really, really icy-cold wet n windy, stay-in-doors-ALL-Day day; the slow blush of blossoms and green-ness in spring and then the long light of summer. And if i was 16 I'd be tucking a flower in my hair too.
And here's a few treats from the Camberwell market last weekend. OOh! Project Runway season 5 beckons, see ya!
