and that was June 2008! Well i never intended to take a blog break but as i'm still unable to upload images and with a few other technical hiccups, i've been slack in the ol' post department. While i've been absent I've signed up for a northern hemisphere summer art class courtesy of miss stacey's summer school but as yet haven't completed my first project. Yep: never enough hours in the day.....the best laid plans.....biting off more than i can chew.....you get the picture! What with family stuff, health issues and working down coal mine, mixed up with trying to achieve what i want to do balanced with what i need to do, sound familiar? Are we all madly trying to get way too much done? I just wonder when the checkered flag is going to come into view so i can cross the finish line. (that's definately not me in the fluoro lycra) Yes it's about balance, about stepping back, stopping even: like Jane, one of my early best blog reads, who is taking an extended break. She'll be fondly missed but i very much admire her choice to step of the blog circuit. Choice. That's it. So even if i hand in all my work late (oh how i hated those dreaded green? pink? slips at uni) i'm going to do my damndest to put something on paper. For those of you intersted other (A+) students have handed in their work and wow, it's quite inspirational. Go take a look!
In other news, i love the new issue of frankie. I get second look in after my daughter (it's her subscription) and i think it would be my favourite mag at the moment. Amongst some David Sedaris and other very readable content there's a feature on one of my favourite artist, Rob Ryan. His work can bring a lump to my throat along with some sighing. But frankie always provides good reading, great images and illustrations and doesn't instill horrid envy over outrageously priced consumables, plus it celebrates the ordinary and the unusual, the not so famous, and that we, the reader, can think for ourselves! And as a teenager's parent i'm more comfortable with a frankie being read cover to cover than a dolly or cosmo or No-Idea etc. Another choice mag is mixtape zine, for it's local flavour and accessible, intelligent and crafty content. Nicola and Justine are truly doing a great job! It's great to see/read what real folk are doing/making/thinking. The latest issue is up for pre-sale now!

I'm intrigued by Frankie magazine- so many of my favourite bloggers from 'down under' have mentioned it recently. And thanks so much for taking part in the Summer school- in whatever form it takes for you!
i hear you about trying to fit it all in. I feel like I am always screaming around trying to get everything done - kids, family, sewing, computer, cooking, blogging, etsy, gardening, health, breathing, friends, & just wondering when i get to stop...I did get asked what would make a difference for me & my answer is - another day in the week for me just to catch up - sad really. I feel tired just thinking about it. I must go & get the new issue of frankie & sit down & read while at the beach next week - thanks for reminding me.
That's a lovely drawing. Winter is a great time of year and a reflective time I think. Hibernation and time to consider things before reawakening in Spring.
nice trees.
especiallly love the autumn one.
